Early childhood

How can early childhood services staff use AI safely?

Early childhood services hold information about children and families that must be protected. AI can save time on parent emails, newsletters, program ideas and admin, but staff need clear rules about children's names, photos, observations and family details. AI Work Ready trains centre admin teams and educators to use AI under your service's rules, with practice on real centre tasks.

Who this is for

Centre directors, admin teams and educators in long day care, outside school hours care, preschools and family day care services.

Where AI fits in a centre

  • Helpful. Drafting a general newsletter or a reminder about fees or closures
  • Helpful. Brainstorming activity ideas for a theme
  • Helpful. Rewording a policy summary for families
  • Take care. Learning stories and observations, which describe a real child
  • Never. Children's photos, health details or custody information in an unapproved tool

Children's information needs extra care

Families trust services with information about their children. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner recommends that organisations do not enter personal information, and particularly sensitive information, into publicly available AI tools. Your service decides which tools are approved and how documentation is written. The training helps staff follow those rules.
